Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the conflict in Ukraine should have been resolved a long time ago without EU leaders, who he said were pushing President Volodymyr Zelensky to continue his hostile actions.
Viktor Orban, leader of the EU- member state and NATO, has long been known for his friendship with Russia and his frequent criticism of the EU's policies. He maintains a good relationship with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, efforts to end the conflict are failing as the EU is hindering US mediation efforts. "If Europe had not opposed Mr Trump's policies, if they had all been on the same boat as the Americans, peace could have been achieved. But European leaders want to continue the conflict," he affirmed.
Mr. Orban accused EU leaders of being completely unpopular with peace. He said they have a "clear military stance" and are openly pursuing a military plan to prolong the conflict. According to him, their current goal is to "lure President Trump from the peace side to the side that wants to continue the conflict".
When asked why President Trump did not cut arms aid to Ukraine, Mr. Orban gave a noteworthy answer, saying that the question was inherently wrong. According to him, the US has not actually sent direct aid to Ukraine anymore.
Mr. Orban explained his argument, saying that the aid model has changed. "Mr. Trump sells weapons to Europe and Europe will transfer them to Ukraine with his own money," he said. "Although I cannot speak on behalf of the US President, I am confident that the American people have made a profit from this."
He concluded with a satirical image: "The American people have withdrawn from the conflict, they have not spent a single penny. We, the Europeans, either send money directly to Ukraine, or buy US weapons to send. Meanwhile, Americans just sit and drink coffee and say thank you."
