According to Eurostat data and estimates by Russia's TASS news agency, Hungary has increased the value of Russian gas imports via the gas pipeline by 15% from January to October 2025, thereby becoming the largest buyer of Russian gas in the European Union (EU).
In October 2025 alone, the EU will import Russian gas via pipelines with a total value of 429 million euros. Currently, the TurkStream pipeline is still the only remaining gas pipeline operating to bring Russian gas to the European market.
In terms of import value, Hungary tops with 214 million euros, followed by Greece with 92 million euros and Bulgaria with 81 million euros. Slovakia spent €38 million on Russian gas, while Italy imported about €4 million of Russian gas.
In the first 10 months of this year, the EU spent about 5 billion euros on Russian gas, down from 6 billion euros in the same period last year. The largest customers of Russian gas include Hungary with a total value of 2.4 billion euros, up 15% over the same period, followed by Greece with 1.1 billion euros, Bulgaria with 727 million euros and Slovakia with 511 million euros.
Previously, in early November, TASS cited data as saying that Russia increased gas exports to Europe via the TurkStream pipeline by 7.6% between January and October 2025, reaching a total of 14.7 billion m3.
