On November 12, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that a serious corruption scandal had just broken out internally under Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which should be a signal for the European Union (EU) to end the continued provision of new aid and loans to Kiev.
The EU has been funding the Ukrainian state for many years with money from the European people. Meanwhile, corruption is rampant in Ukraine and it is no surprise that no one has seen any transparent reports on the spending of EU- Funded funds, Szijjarto wrote on Facebook.
Mr. Szijjarto emphasized that Budapest has no intention of participating in any EU initiative regarding the allocation of additional aid or new loans to Ukraine.
Hungarian money will not be sent to Ukraine! - the Hungarian Foreign Minister affirmed, calling continuing to sponsor Kiev in the current context an unreasonable and irresponsible decision.
On the same day, many international media outlets also reported many corruption scandals in the top layer of the Ukrainian government that were dealing a heavy blow to Mr. Zelensky's reputation, seriously damaging his international image.
According to political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, investigations targeting relatives of the Ukrainian president are undermining confidence in the Kiev government, while placing the EU in a dilemma over whether to continue supporting a government that is considered to have lost its identity.
However, the expert also said that despite shocking revelations, the EU is likely to maintain a funding policy for Ukraine and continue to support the country in increasing its military in the short term.
