The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that it has signed an agreement with Athens worth about 3 billion euros to establish an air defense system called the "Achilles Shield" for Greece.
According to the agreement, Israel will build for Greece a comprehensive, multi-layered air defense complex, entirely based on Israeli-made systems and extensive combat experience that Israeli defense forces have accumulated in wars," the ministry's statement stated.
This agreement - the result of a three-year negotiation process - will become the largest defense export deal in Israeli history.
Most of the capital will be transferred to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. This company will provide Greece with David's Sling systems - designed to intercept heavy missiles and ballistic missiles - as well as mobile SPYDER systems used to deal with drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
Israel Aerospace Industries will provide the Barak MX system, which is designed to defend against aircraft and missiles.
