Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, July 27, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that recent negotiations with Oman on the management of the strategic waterway through the Strait of Hormuz have no connection with the US.
Mr. Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that this is a bilateral issue between Iran and Oman, and discussions between the two sides are still ongoing.
Previously, on July 24 and 25, Iran and Oman conducted direct dialogues in Tehran to exchange views on maritime safety assurance mechanisms in the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry took place in the context of just recording complicated developments on the ground. On July 27, a tanker exploded after hitting a mine in this strait area. Sources said that the incident occurred after the ship was said to have turned off its radar system and moved away from the maritime corridor designated by Iran.
The Iranian side has repeatedly issued warnings requiring all ships and boats when traveling through the Strait of Hormuz to follow the prescribed route. The Iranian representative affirmed that any vehicle that voluntarily leaves the announced corridor will be fully responsible for the consequences.
