At least 7 people were killed and 24 injured in two Israeli airstrikes in the Beirut area, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health on April 1. Attacks targeted vehicles in the southern suburbs of the capital and the southern city area.
According to the Lebanese state news agency NNA, an airstrike hit a vehicle in the Khaldeh area, killing 2 people and injuring 3 others. The second attack occurred in the Jnah area of Beirut, where at least 5 people were killed and 21 injured.
The Israeli military said two separate attacks targeted a senior commander and another senior Hezbollah member, but did not name them or confirm the results.
This is the latest development in Israel's escalating military campaign in Lebanon, which has killed at least 1,200 people and forced about 1.2 million people to leave their homes. Lebanon was drawn into conflict after Hezbollah launched missiles into Israel to show support for Iran, 2 days after Iran was attacked by the US and Israel.
Hezbollah's actions have led to Israel expanding its ground and air campaigns against Lebanon. To date, this force has not issued an official response to the latest airstrikes.
The situation in the region continues to be tense as back-and-forth attacks between the parties have not shown signs of ending, increasing concerns about a prolonged conflict.
