China's National Meteorological Center issued a green alert for the cold front and another green alert for strong winds on December 10.
The cold front is expected to saw widespread temperatures drop sharply and the first large-scale snowfall of the winter in northern China in the next few days.
It is forecasted that by December 13, most areas in China will see a significant drop in temperatures, with average daily temperatures or minimum temperatures expected to drop by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.
On December 10, light to moderate snowfall or hail occurred in some areas west and north of Xinjiang and in Inner Mongolia.
The snowfall is expected to spread significantly on December 11 and 12, with areas including Inner Mongolia, Shipwright, Son Tay, Hebei and Ha Nam likely to see heavy snowfall, even snowstorms.
China's weather forecasters warn that this severe cold will cover large areas and may be accompanied by a sudden drop in temperatures and strong winds.
China has a four-tier weather warning system, coded by color, with red being the most severe warning level, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
According to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather forecast for the regions from the night of December 10 to 12:
Northern region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri: There will be rain in some places, early morning there will be scattered fog and light fog; in the Northeast region and from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, there will be scattered rain on the night of December 11 to 12. Cold at night and morning, some mountainous areas in the North are very cold.
Hue city and the South Central Coast region from December 11 will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places.
The Central Highlands and the Southeast will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy rain.
The Southwest region will have moderate rain, locally heavy to very heavy rain; from December 12, the rain will decrease. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
