Forecast of another strong cold front from China spreading south

Thanh Hà |

A strong cold front is forecast to sweep south, causing severe cold over the weekend.

The latest cold air forecast from the Hong Kong Meteorological Agency (China) said that a particularly severe cold will occur in Hong Kong (China) by the end of next week, with temperatures forecast to drop to about 16 degrees Celsius on December 13 and down to about 15 degrees Celsius on December 14.

Due to the continuous influence of the northeast monsoon, southern China will mainly have beautiful and dry weather in the next few days, with a relatively large temperature range for day and night, especially in inland areas. A wide cloud band is expected to spread over the coast of Guangdong from mid- to late next week.

A cold front is expected to reach southern China by the end of next week. When it arrives, the north wind will strengthen, with 1 or 2 light rains and temperatures forecast to drop significantly across the region.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression in the eastern Philippines is expected to move slowly in a west-northwest direction, through the central and southern Philippines in the coming days.

After that, this tropical depression will move into the southern part of the East Sea and gradually weaken, forecasters in Hong Kong (China) said.

Also related to the tropical depression near the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) informed that heavy rain is forecast to occur in some areas in Luzon and Visayas on December 6 due to tropical depression Wilma and wind shear.

It is forecasted that many areas will have heavy to very heavy rain (rainfall from 100 to 200mm), including heavy rain due to tropical depression Wilma in Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar. Forecast of rain due to wind shear in Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay.

Along with the forecast of rain, PAGASA warned that many floods are possible, especially in urbanized areas, low-lying areas or near rivers and landslides are also likely to occur in areas at risk of moderate to very vulnerable impacts.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rain (rainfall from 50 to 100mm) is forecast to occur in many areas. The rain is caused by the impact of storm Wilma in Romblon, Biliran, Leyte, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique. Wind shear is forecast in Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Quezon.

In these areas, there is a possibility of flooding and landslides in low-lying areas, near rivers and vulnerable areas.

According to the latest update from PAGASA on tropical depression Wilma, this system is maintaining strong intensity as it moves east of Eastern Visayas. The tropical depression is forecast to enter the East Sea and is moving slowly westward with maximum winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h.
