The possibility of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine, which President Volodymyr Zelensky requested within the framework of security assurances for Ukraine, will pose a threat not only to Russia but also to the whole world, Russian Senator Alexander Voloshin, representing the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, shared with TASS.
The transfer of nuclear weapons to a country participating in a military conflict will disrupt the entire international security structure and essentially collapse the nuclear non-proliferation mechanism. This threatens not only Russia but the whole world," Alexander Voloshin warned.
Mr. Alexander Voloshin added: "Any initiative in this direction immediately pushes the level of tension to the highest level. This is a global confrontation risk with unpredictable consequences.
According to him, this scenario could end with "nuclear mushroom clouds in the sky over Minsk, Budapest or the Bosphorus Strait".
Mr. Voloshin said that Kiev's request for nuclear weapons is aimed at maintaining attention and resources from Western countries, because "the more unrealistic and attention-grabbing the request, the greater the possibility that Ukraine will continue to appear in the media and receive new aid packages".
I firmly believe that even the most progressive politicians in the West understand that the transfer of nuclear weapons is a step beyond the irreversible line. Unlike the supply of tanks or missiles, this is an irreversible move, creating long-term change for the region. That means that in reality, this requirement is mainly ostentatious," he concluded.
However, according to Alexander Voloshin, this information tactic is also showing a worrying trend, which is an effort to "normalize discussions about nuclear weapons proliferation as a common tool of pressure".
Last week, Ukrainian media quoted President Volodymyr Zelensky as saying that security assurances for Ukraine should include the transfer of nuclear weapons.
Some people say that Ukraine will not be able to win because Russia is a country that possesses nuclear weapons. So please tell me, in your opinion, what security guarantees should Ukraine have? NATO? Or nuclear weapons? If so, we need to be made clear that: "We will give you NATO and we will give you nuclear weapons". But so far, no one has raised this issue" - President Zelensky said.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced that Paris and London are planning to transfer Kiev an atomic bomb or at least a "dirty bomb". According to the considered option, a small French TN75 nuclear warhead equipped for submarine-launched M51.1 ballistic missiles could be used.
