The "Pyramid" on Mars is actually just a natural structure

A structure on Mars shaped like an Egyptian pyramid is attracting attention, but scientists claim it is just a product of nature.

According to information from Sciencealert, this structure is located in the Candor Chasma canyon (Mars) and was recorded through photos taken by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor. Recently, images continued to spread after being shared on social networks, raising many speculations about the possibility of the existence of artificial structures on the red planet.

However, high-resolution data from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show that this is actually a natural rock formed through millions of years of prolonged erosion. Wind, water and geological activity have eroded the surrounding rock layer, leaving behind harder rocks with prominent shapes.

This rock has a diameter of about 290 meters and a height of about 145 meters, located in the area with many similar structures. Its edges and surfaces are not completely balanced or smooth like an artificial structure, but rough and uneven.

This phenomenon is not uncommon. On Earth, there are also many mountains shaped like pyramids created by the natural weathering process.

According to scientists, it is common for humans to see familiar shapes in random structures, because the brain tends to recognize patterns. This may cause natural stone blocks to be misunderstood as artificial works.

However, Mars is still a planet containing many interesting things. Geochemical processes lasting billions of years have created unique landscapes, helping scientists better understand the history and evolution of this planet.
