The 86-year-old leader's image was broadcast on Iranian state television. He is welcoming everyone and receiving enthusiastic cheers at a mosque on the occasion of the Ashura ceremony to commemorate Imam Hussein - the nephew of Prophet Muhammad, who sacrificed his heroic brother and was especially honored by Shiaism.
Mr. Khamenei appeared in a black outfit, while the crowd below raised their fists in the air, shouting strong support slogans to express solidarity.
State television said the video was filmed at Imam Khomeini converted at a mosque in central Tehran, named after the founder of the Islamic Republic.
Last week, Mr. Khamenei - who has been in power since 1989 - gave a recorded speech and had not appeared publicly since Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Iran on June 13.
His last public appearance was two days before the airstrike in Iran, when he met with members of parliament.
