Lebanon sets conditions before next round of negotiations with Israel

Lebanon has not set a date for the next negotiations with Israel and requests Israel to meet some conditions before resuming this process.

On August 11, according to TASS news agency, Lebanon will not set a date for the next round of negotiations with Israel mediated by the United States until its requests are met.

We are not in a hurry to set a date for the next round of negotiations with Israel until Israel accepts our requests," the source said.

According to sources, Beirut requested the expansion of pilot areas, where there is no presence of Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon; strengthening the ceasefire; and ending attacks on infrastructure.

Previously, a Lebanese diplomatic source said that the next round of consultations would not take place before autumn and the two sides currently do not maintain any direct contact.

If a new round of negotiations is finally held, it is likely that this event will take place after the summer ends," the source said. The source also ruled out the possibility of Lebanon and Israel conducting direct negotiations at the present time.

The seventh round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States, took place in Rome from August 4 to 6.

After 5 rounds of consultations mediated by the US in the US, Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement on June 26. According to the agreement, the Lebanese army will gradually restore effective sovereignty control over the entire country's territory, while Israel will withdraw troops from its controlled areas.

The agreement also stipulates the establishment of "pilot areas", that is, areas from which the Israeli army will withdraw. The Lebanese army began establishing the first pilot area in the south of the country at the end of July.
