On July 18 (local time), Lebanese President Joseph Aoun departed from Beirut to Washington to meet US President Donald Trump.
According to AFP, this will be the first visit to the US by a Lebanese head of state since former President Michel Sleiman was received by President Barack Obama in 2009.
The Lebanese President's visit to the US also takes place after the latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel ended in Italy.
The Lebanese Presidential Office said that Mr. Aoun will meet and exchange views with many US officials on the situation in Lebanon, measures to strengthen the ceasefire and Israel's withdrawal from the occupied areas in Lebanon.
Previously, Israel and Lebanon began US-backed negotiations in April to reach a peace agreement and permanently end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah forces.
On June 26, the two sides reached a framework agreement in Washington (USA), according to which the Israeli army will withdraw from southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese army will concentrate forces in 2 pilot areas.
However, the implementation of the agreement depends on the condition that Hezbollah forces must be disarmaged. Currently, Hezbollah has completely rejected both the agreement and the negotiation process between Israel and Lebanon.
After the latest round of negotiations this week in Rome (Italy), a US official said that Israel and Lebanon have agreed on the structure and principles for deploying the pilot regional model.
A Lebanese military source revealed to AFP that the country's army has increased patrols in several villages bordering Israeli-controlled areas, including Froun village in Bint Jbeil district, to prepare to implement the terms of the agreement.
Hezbollah has brought Lebanon into the vortex of Middle East conflict since the beginning of March 2026, when this force began attacking Israel to show support for Iran.
In response, Israel launched airstrikes and launched ground operations in Lebanon. Although the two sides later reached a ceasefire, the Israeli army still maintained its presence in some areas in southern Lebanon and continued to conduct scattered airstrikes.
