Gulf countries propose that the United Nations condemn Iran

Gulf countries called on the United Nations Security Council to hold Iran accountable after a series of new attacks in the region.

On June 11, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to intervene and take measures against Iran after a series of new tense developments in the Middle East.

According to TASS news agency, the call was made in a joint statement after the GCC Council of Ministers meeting held in Manama, Bahrain.

In the statement, the GCC requested the United Nations Security Council and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities by condemning attacks in the region, and at the same time forcing relevant parties to take responsibility.

This bloc emphasized that all handling measures need to ensure respect for the sovereignty of nations, while contributing to maintaining peace and security in the region as well as globally.

GCC foreign ministers also blamed Iran for what they described as hostile actions and serious consequences for regional security, international maritime activities and energy supplies.

The statement also called for an immediate end to all attacks targeting GCC member states, economic interests as well as citizens of the bloc.

This development occurred in the context of escalating tensions between the US and Iran in recent days.

According to TASS, in the early morning of June 11, the US conducted airstrikes on Iranian territory in response to the previous downing of a US military combat helicopter.

After Washington's attack, Iran is said to have launched attacks targeting US military bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait. Consecutive retaliatory moves raise concerns about the risk of widespread conflict in the Middle East.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could continue to target Iran's infrastructure if tensions do not cool down. Accordingly, potential targets may include bridges, roads, power systems and many other strategic projects.

Observers believe that the latest developments are making the security environment in the Middle East more unstable. This is an area that plays a particularly important role in the global energy market, and is also home to many vital shipping routes of the world.

In the context of the parties continuously issuing warnings and retaliatory actions, the international community is closely monitoring the situation to prevent the risk of a larger-scale crisis in the region.
