In a June 6 announcement, the IRGC said that their Aerospace Forces launched missiles at Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait and key facilities of the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain. Tehran said this action was carried out after US drones attacked a communication facility on Qeshm Island and a building in Sirik district.
The IRGC said that previously, this force had fired warning shots at one of the 4 oil tankers believed to be trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz, causing the ships to turn around. The organization also warned that it would respond unlimitedly if hostilities continued and emphasized that the enemy would face the consequences if the Strait of Hormuz was completely closed to oil and gas exports.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) later confirmed that Iran had launched 7 ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, just hours after US forces shot down 4 drones heading towards the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a preliminary assessment by CENTCOM, 6 of the 7 missiles were intercepted, while the remaining one did not reach the target. The agency said that no casualties were recorded for US forces, and denied Iran's information about damage at the 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
On the same day, the Kuwaiti army said it was dealing with missiles and drones as warnings rang nationwide. The General Staff of the Kuwaiti army affirmed that the explosions that people heard stemmed from interception operations by the air defense system.
In Bahrain, the Ministry of Interior issued an air strike warning and advised people to remain calm and move to the nearest safe place.
