Conflict flares up between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk

President Donald Trump has threatened to cut government contracts with billionaire Elon Musk's companies, while Musk has suggested Trump should be impeached.

The conflict began when President Trump criticized Tesla CEO Musk at the Trump Department.

In just a few hours, the once close relationship broke down in front of the public, when the most powerful man in the world and one of the richest people in the world attacked each other on the social network Truth Social of Mr. Trump and X of billionaire Elon Musk.

"The easiest way to save money in our budgets, billions and billions of dollars, is to end Elon's government subsidies and contracts," Trump posted on Truth Social.

For his part, billionaire Elon Musk responded "Yes" to a post on X saying that Mr. Trump should be impeached.

The media said that tensions between the two sides began to flare up many days ago, when billionaire Elon Musk condemned President Trump's comprehensive tax and spending cuts.

The president initially remained silent while Musk campaigned against passing the bill, noting that the bill would add too much to the US's 36.2 trillion-dollar debt.

Mr Trump broke the news on June 5, saying to reporters at the Oval Office that he was "very disappointed" with the billionaire Musk.

"Look, Elon and I have a great relationship. I don't know if we're like that anymore," Trump said.

When Mr. Trump spoke at the White House, Mr. Musk responded in real time with increasingly harsh posts on X.

Without me, Mr. Trump would have lost the election, Musk wrote. The billionaire spent nearly $300 million to support Trump and other Republicans in the US election last year.

In another post, billionaire Musk affirmed that President Trump's taxes will push the US into recession by the end of this year.
