NATO's Boeing E-3A Sentry early warning and command aircraft was recorded flying around the offshore area in the Black Sea, in Romanian airspace.
A NATO aircraft, registered in Luxembourg, is circling in the Black Sea area, in Romanian airspace" - a source from the European Union air traffic control agency revealed to Russian news agency TASS on July 12.
According to this source, the plane took off from Siauliai, Lithuania and flew over central Romania. Escorting the Boeing E-3A Sentry on this journey was an air refueling aircraft Boeing KC-135T Stratotanker.
After flying a few circles in the area, the Boeing E-3A Sentry aircraft flew to the Black Sea coast of Romania. Here, the NATO early warning and command aircraft maintained flight at an altitude of nearly 9,000m.
The source did not specify the purpose of the flight, only revealing that the equipment on the Boeing E-3A Sentry aircraft allows detection and identification of aerial targets at a distance of up to 400km.
A similar mission previously carried out by Boeing E-3A Sentry aircraft took place at the end of June," the source added.
In the past few months, another NATO aircraft - a US-made Bombardier Challenger 650 Artemis II reconnaissance and reconnaissance aircraft - has also been frequently detected in the international waters of the Black Sea.
