Russia-China fighter jets patrol near Japan

Japan's Defense Ministry said it has sent fighter jets to monitor joint patrols between the Russian and Chinese air forces around the area.

According to information from the Japanese Ministry of Defense, two Russian Tu-95 strategic bomb attack aircraft, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, conducted a long-haul joint flight with Chinese aircraft in the Pacific region.

Accordingly, 4 Chinese J-16 fighters participated in protecting the formation when the group of aircraft roamed between Okinawa Island and Miyako Island of Japan. The Miyako Strait is classified as an international sea area, allowing foreign military aircraft to pass through, but this activity still makes Tokyo more vigilant.

At the same time, Japan said it had recorded Russian air force activity in Japanese waters with an A-50 anti-aircraft aircraft and two Su-30 fighters.

Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi wrote on X that the coordination between Russia and China is clearly a show of strength for us, which poses a serious concern for national security. He said that Japan's air defense forces have deployed air defense identification measures in accordance with regulations.

Russian news agencies quoted a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, saying that the joint flight between Russia and China near Japan lasted 8 hours. The South Korean military also confirmed that seven Russian and two Chinese aircraft had entered the country's air defense identification zone.
