The Venezuelan Defense Ministry said a small military plane carrying indigenous community members to the Amazon fell into the forest on July 29 (local time), killing seven people.
Only 3 soldiers survived, including the captain. The Vice President was unlucky to be on the list of those who died.
The initial cause of the plane crash was believed to be a technical error.
At least 10 people were on board, including local community members Yanomami, the crew and medical staff, local officials said.
The crashed plane was a Cessna C-208B, an air force unit that supports indigenous communities in the remote Amazon region.
The Cessna C-208B crashed about 14km east of Puerto Ayacucho airport while carrying personnel to the town of Parima B, near the border with Brazil.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the plane crash.
Notably, this is not the first time this air force unit has encountered an incident. Another of their C-208Bs crashed in November 2022 during a training flight, killing five officers.
