President calls for cooperation in science, technology, and innovation between Vietnam and Korea

President Luong Cuong suggested that Vietnam and South Korea promote cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and training of high-quality human resources.

On July 30, at the Presidential Palace, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong received Mr. Park Chang Dal, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea.

At the meeting, President Luong Cuong highly appreciated President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung for holding a phone call and sending a Special Envoy to Vietnam immediately after taking office, thereby demonstrating his respect for Vietnam and the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Conveying the best wishes to the new President Lee Jae Myung, the President believes that under his leadership, Korea will continue to be prosperous and the people will be happy; at the same time, affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to its relations with Korea and supports the development policies of the Lee Jae Myung government, thereby contributing to enhancing the role and international position of Korea.

President Luong Cuong emphasized that after more than 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, especially after upgrading relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022, cooperation between the two countries has developed strongly and effectively in most areas; the two countries have become top important partners of each other.

Based on the great development potential, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides continue to cooperate closely to promote exchanges of high-level delegations and all levels; promote cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and training of high-quality human resources, especially in the context of Vietnam promoting digital transformation, developing a green economy, a circular economy; continue to promote the implementation of cooperation areas where Korea has strengths and Vietnam has needs on the basis of mutual benefit, thereby soon completing the goal of increasing bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable direction; expand cultural, sports and people-to-people cooperation between the two countries.

The President hopes that Korea will continue to care for and support nearly 350,000 Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in Korea, including nearly 100,000 Vietnam - Korea multicultural families, as a bridge of friendship, contributing to further deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Special Envoy Park Chang Dal said that President Lee Jae Myung highly values the relationship with Vietnam and considers Vietnam a key partner in the region; hopes that based on the substantive and effective development goals of the new Korean government, he will continue to cooperate closely with Vietnam for mutual development; suggested that Vietnam continue to pay attention, create conditions and remove difficulties for Korean enterprises in the process of investing in Vietnam.

The two sides agreed to continue to cooperate closely in regional and international forums of mutual interest. President Luong Cuong affirmed the importance of ensuring peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, maintaining a peaceful, stable environment, legal order and resolving disputes at sea by peaceful means, on the basis of international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Special Envoy Park Chang Dal affirmed that he will cooperate closely with Vietnam to successfully organize the APEC 2025 Summit in Korea and APEC 2027 in Vietnam.
