Promoting bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Korea in many fields

Within the framework of the visit and working session in Korea, on July 31, the high-ranking delegation of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) led by Mr. Do Van Chien - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - had meetings with Korean Prime Minister Min Kim Seok and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Korea Lee Hack Young, working with a number of agencies, organizations and research institutes at the headquarters.

At the meeting held at the headquarters of the Government Complex in Seoul, Prime Minister Min Kim Seok warmly welcomed the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to visit Korea, saying that the visit is even more meaningful in the context that the Korean Government wishes to continue promoting the development of bilateral cooperation commensurate with the comprehensive strategic cooperation relationship.

The Prime Minister of South Korea highly appreciated the significant progress in bilateral relations, including trade and investment, over the past 30 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations; and expressed hope that this partnership will become increasingly deepened through cooperation in strategic industries such as nuclear power plants and high-speed railways.

Prime Minister Kim said that Korea and Vietnam have a very special relationship, sharing many similarities; the Vietnamese community in Korea is growing, including many Korean-Vietnamese multicultural families who are a valuable bridge between the two countries. Prime Minister Kim also emphasized the importance of promoting exchanges between the people of the two countries and pledged to care for and support the safety of Vietnamese citizens.

Prime Minister Kim added that in October 2025, South Korea will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju City. The Korean government is making every effort to prepare for the conference and hopes to welcome the President of Vietnam at the upcoming conference.

For his part, Mr. Do Van Chien expressed his impression of the remarkable development of Korea; at the same time, he emphasized the importance of the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea. Mr. Do Van Chien said that Vietnam is making efforts to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and has achieved many important achievements and many outstanding milestones. In 2024, Vietnam will successfully complete its socio-economic development goals, with a GDP growth rate of over 7%, becoming the 32nd largest economy in the world. Vietnam has completed the arrangement and streamlining of the central and local administrative apparatus. This is an extremely important decision, a historic step of strategic significance, marking a new development stage in perfecting the state administrative apparatus, perfecting the institutions and organization of the political system to be synchronous, streamlined, effective, and efficient, towards perfecting a modern, creative, close-to-the-people, and for the people to serve, so that all benefits belong to the people.

With the function and role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Mr. Do Van Chien suggested that the Korean Government promote the following contents: continue to increase delegation exchanges at high and all levels; promote flexible contact and meeting mechanisms at multilateral forums and conferences, thereby creating trust and cohesion between the two countries' senior leaders. Appreciating the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Mr. Do Van Chien suggested that the Korean Government increase the implementation of large-scale projects with preferential conditions for projects developing strategic transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure, digital infrastructure and climate change adaptation infrastructure; continue to expand the scale of non-refundable aid, especially in the fields of research and development (R&D), innovation.

In addition, Mr. Do Van Chien also suggested that the Korean Government pay attention to the Vietnamese community living in Korea, have appropriate support policies so that the Vietnamese community can increasingly contribute more, participate and integrate deeply into the host society; enhance exchange and friendship activities between localities of the two countries...

Also on July 31, Mr. Do Van Chien met with Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Korea Lee Hack Young at the National Assembly headquarters in Yeouido.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Lee Hack-young expressed his delight at the cooperative relationship between the two countries that is developing well in all fields. Vietnam is Korea's third largest trading partner. The potential for bilateral cooperation is still open. In the political field, leaders of the two countries regularly exchange high-level visits. Most recently, right after taking office in early June, President Lee Jae Myung held a phone call with President Luong Cuong and invited President Luong Cuong to attend the 2025 APEC Summit. The 22nd National Assembly of Korea also established the Korea - Vietnam Friendship Conference to further promote bilateral cooperation on many levels, commensurate with the level of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Do Van Chien said that Vietnam has completed the amendment of the Constitution, reorganized and streamlined the administrative apparatus and completed the legal framework for a number of key development areas with a synchronous and transparent legislative mindset, focusing on practical life, in line with international practices, contributing to bringing Vietnam into a new era, an era of national growth, striving to be a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030; and by 2045, it will become a developed country with high income. In that process, Vietnam wishes to accompany and cooperate closely with South Korea.

Mr. Do Van Chien also introduced the functions, tasks and roles of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and emphasized the mutual support in the operational roles of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the National Assembly. Mr. Do Van Chien said that the close cooperation between the National Assembly of Korea and the National Assembly of Vietnam, including the regular maintenance of delegation exchanges between the National Assembly, the Friendship Parliamentary Groups of the two countries and between the socio-political organizations of the two countries, has contributed significantly to promoting people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and trust; as well as closely cooperating and supporting each other in international and regional inter-parliamentary forums. Vietnam continues to consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development. Vietnam always wishes and is ready to cooperate closely with the National Assembly of Korea to support and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Korea to develop substantially and effectively.

During the 2 days of July 30-31, the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also had working sessions at the Global Knowledge Cooperation Center under the Korea Development Research Institute (KDI), received the Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, and visited Pangyo Technology Valley, the National Federation of Korean Cooperatives.

At the meetings with Mr. Do Van Chien and the Vietnamese delegation, leaders of Korean agencies and socio-political organizations all expressed their respect for Vietnam and hoped to continue to deepen bilateral relations at all levels.
