According to Daily Mail, Vicky Swainson, 31, said she was devastated when her pet cat Gucci disappeared while her family was moving into a new home in 2008.
Vicky saw Gucci, then just three years old, jumping into a nearby plot of land and spending the day searching for him but to no avail. Vicky's furry friend went missing near his family's home in Gildersome, near Leeds, West Yorkshire. Vicky, then 19 years old, was determined to search for the animal.
The girl put up dozens of posters printed with Gucci photos and traveled thousands of kilometers every day around the area from her new home back to her old home in the hope of finding it on the street.
12 years have passed, when all hope is almost gone, Vicky suddenly receives a shocking call from the Abbey House veterinary clinic: they have found her long- gone missing cat.
Vicky immediately went to the clinic to receive Gucci. According to the veterinarian, it is unclear how the cat has lived for more than ten years, but a kind cat lover has been feeding it for the past 8 months when he saw it wandering on the road.
After realizing that Gucci was losing weight, the woman contacted a veterinarian to check the cat. At this time, the veterinarians scans and see a microchip attached to the cat's neck and contact Vicky.
"When I received the call, I was completely shocked and couldn't think of anything. This situation was truly lucky with a 1/1,000,000 chance. I didn't think I could find Gucci again, even though I was holding him in my hand now," Vicky shared.
A microchip is a small device the size of a rice grain grown under the skin of a pet. With just a scanning machine, the veterinarian can know the animal's microchip number without having to intervene in its body. They can then check the animal's information through the search database. If the owner has registered, personal information will be displayed.
"Without the microchip, this moment of reunion would never have come to me and Gucci - a beloved cat considered a family member. I think microchipping is important for dog and cat owners," Vicky said.
