ABC News quoted a spokesperson for the US Federal Aviation Administration as saying that each hot air balloon "floated strongly from an unspecified altitude" shortly after 8 a.m. (local time) in Teton village, near Jackson City, Wyoming state.
Teton District Police Chief Matt Carr said the emergency unit had treated 16 to 20 people who suffered a series of injuries, but no deaths were reported.
A local hospital also confirmed that in the mid-afternoon of August 3, it had received 10 patients involved in the accident. Two people have been diagnosed, three are still waiting for consultation results and five patients have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
ABC News quoted Trump Trump Trump, a tourist from Austin, Texas, visiting Wyoming, who was on the hot air balloon with his wife and three children when the incident occurred, saying his family was in the largest hot air balloon that was falling and had seen two other hot air balloons fall to the ground before. The winds "pushed the hot air balloon to one side", and the second one was "turned around" before it fell down.
Mr. Phillips said that the hot air balloon carrying 20 passengers, including his family, crashed into the ground and overturned, then was towed for about 180 meters before stopping in a mountain stream.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Committee are investigating the accident in detail.
Police chief Matt Carr said the incidents could be due to weather-related reasons.
