According to The Times of Israel, US President Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Israel on September 11 (local time) for accidentally killing an American citizen.
President Joe Biden said Israel must be held fully accountable for this unfortunate incident and ensure it will not happen again in the future.
Vice President Kamala Harris immediately asked Israel to provide details of all the activities of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the West Bank. She said that Israel had caused a tragedy.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also expressed his disagreement in a speech in London (UK) on September 10. He said that the IDF must introduce more rules when operating in the West Bank to minimize casualties.
The victim in the incident was identified as Aysenur Eygi, a 26-year-old Turkish-American and an activist in the International Solidarity Movement.
Eygi was shot while participating in a peaceful demonstration with Palestinians on September 6 to protest Israel’s occupation of the West Bank. A group of rioters arrived at the same time.
In the chaos, the Israeli army used tear gas and live ammunition to quell the riots and control the crowd, but unfortunately Eygi was hit by bullets.
After the news of Aysenur Eygi's death spread everywhere, on September 10, the IDF spoke out that this was just an accident and felt regretful for this action.
