Reuters reported that on May 14, some US officials said that the US will mobilize up to 25 tanks to participate in a parade in the capital Washington D.C on June 14, 2025, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US Army and also President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.
The cost of organizing the event is estimated to range from $25 million to $45 million, a significant part of which is due to the cost of the parade, two US officials without their names.
One of them revealed that the US Army is planning to mobilize about 25 Abrams M1 tanks to participate in the parade.
These figures do not include expenses that the Washington City government will cover, such as clearing trash or repairing roads damaged by heavy tanks.
Reuters has previously reported on a plan to include more than 6,500 soldiers, about 150 vehicles and 50 aircraft deployed to Washington.
Critics called the parade a conservative and wasteful display of power, especially in the context of President Donald Trump cutting down on federal spending.
During his first term, Trump asked the Pentagon to consider holding a parade after his visit to France in 2017, which was estimated to cost $90 million.
However, in the end, Mr. Trump chose to organize a display of tanks and armored vehicles on the occasion of National Day 4.7 2019 in Washington.
According to The Globe and Mail, parades are rare in the US. In other countries, parades are often held to celebrate victories or show off military power.
The last time the US held a large-scale parade was in 1991, when tanks and thousands of soldiers marched in Washington to commemorate President Saddam Hussein's victory over the Iranian forces from Kuwait in the Gulf War.
