On May 13, US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Mr. Keith Kellogg, attended a discussion with Fox News channel about a potential negotiation between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul (Türkiye) on May 15.
Mr. Kellogg confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump will attend the meeting, and expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin will also be present. This will be an incredible meeting, he said.
The special delegate also said that the US side is preparing a version of the clause, including key issues that need to be discussed to find a way out of the conflict. He stressed that Washington had also discussed these contents separately with each side before.
When asked What the terms will include, Mr. Kellogg said, the first thing is a commitment to a comprehensive ceasefire on land, in the air and at sea. Next is the issue of control over five regions: Lugansk, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Crimea.
We will also discuss Europes largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia who will be responsible for running it, Mr. Kellogg said.
Ukraine's NATO membership will also be discussed, but it is difficult to do so at the moment, he said.
Notably, Mr. Kellogg revealed that the disolution will include content related to the post-conflict Ukrainian reconstruction plan - an initiative being promoted by several European countries such as the UK, France, Germany and Poland.
The countries could deploy forces to the area near the Dnieper River in eastern Ukraine, which is believed to be beyond the war zone, and they will operate under the name of peacekeeping forces.
The inclusion of this detail in the ckscript shows that the US recognizes that this is one of the key points that need to be resolved if it is to achieve a long-term political solution.
On the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeatedly stated that the presence of NATO troops - in any form - on Ukrainian territory is a security threat and Moscow will never accept it.
