On July 21 (local time), according to TASS news agency, the US administration will not disburse an additional $400 million military aid package for Ukraine, even though this aid has been approved by the US Congress.
The above information was announced by Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat, Illinois) at a hearing of the US Senate Explanation Committee.
Mr. Durbin said that the government has informed Congress that this aid package will not be disbursed during the term of the incumbent President.
When asked to confirm, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine said that he had not received information about this decision.
According to Mr. Durbin, the budget allocation plan that Congress received shows that the above amount is currently expected to be used in fiscal year 2029, which means that the disbursement will be decided by the next US president.
Whoever becomes the next president will decide whether to use this money or not," Mr. Durbin said.
The hearing was also attended by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. However, so far, the Pentagon has not commented on the information released by Senator Durbin.
This move comes as US military aid policy to Ukraine continues to be controversial in Washington. Some senators support maintaining support for Kiev, while others argue that the scale and progress of aid package disbursement need to be reviewed.
If Mr. Durbin's information is accurate, the $400 million military aid package will have to wait for a decision from the new administration after the US presidential election, instead of being implemented in the current term.
