Fox News reported that Yellowstone National Park officials said on September 1 that Giantess Geyser, one of the park's largest waterways, had "wsung up" after 6.5 years of inactivity.
According to the National Park Service (NPS), Geyser Giantess has historically had outbreaks 2-6 times a year.
The NPS said that Giantess Geyser outbreaks are not regular but intense and can occur twice an hour.
When the water flow is eroded, the water column is usually 30-60 meters high and can cause the surrounding area to shake due to underground steam explosions.
On August 30, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that Giantess Geyser had had an outbreak with a more frequent frequency in the past. The six-year gap between the outbreaks is the longest suspension period since 1980.
