On July 12, an emergency heat warning was issued to the cities of Gyeongsan and Pohang in North Gyeongsang province, South Korea at 10 am, marking the first time this type of warning has been activated since the system was introduced.
This warning applies to areas where the maximum perceived temperature in the day has reached 35°C or higher for two consecutive days or more. In such areas, the warning is effective when the perceived temperature is forecast to reach 38°C or higher, or the actual temperature is forecast to reach 39°C or higher, for at least another day.
The heat level sufficient to trigger this warning poses a high risk of heat-related diseases. People are advised to immediately stop outdoor activities, move to shelters or shady areas, and drink water while resting.
