On July 27, Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said that the airstrike using more than 50 Ukrainian drones in the Leningrad region (Russia) killed 1 person and injured 3 others.
The attack took place on the same morning and most of the Ukrainian UAVs were repelled by Leningrad air defense forces, Drozdenko said. However, a few UAVs still fell on residential buildings, causing a fire.
Writing on Telegram, Governor Drozdenko said that this was "an unprecedented attack".
On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that nearly 100 Ukrainian UAVs were also intercepted in other areas of Russian airspace.
Ukraine has not yet commented on this.
Kiev has previously launched large-scale drone strikes targeting various regions of Russia, despite the resumption of diplomatic relations with Moscow.
The latest attacks came after a new round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine held in Istanbul ( Turkey) early last week. Although a ceasefire was not reached, the two sides have made progress on humanitarian issues, including agreements to exchange prisoners and civilians.
Ukraine has conducted UAV attacks deep into Russian territory for months, often targeting residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. The Russian government has called the attacks a terrorist attack targeting civilians.
