Antonov An-124 Ruslan, also known as the Condor, is considered the world's largest military transport aircraft, weighing 192 tons and with a wingspan of 73.3 meters.
The second largest is the Antonov An-225 Mriya. This is the heaviest aircraft ever produced by Russia, with an empty weight of 314 tons, and the largest wingspan of an currently operated aircraft at 88.4 meters.
The two aircraft, used by the Russian air force and a number of cargo operators, were spotted flying on the Russia-Syria route by plane watchers over the past few days, according to Israel's Ynet page.
On September 28, Russia said it had begun supplying the S-300 air defense system to Syria despite Israel's objections. The first Ruslan was spotted landing at Hmeimim air base in Latakia on the afternoon of September 27, according to Ynet.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also announced the transfer of the S-300 at a press conference at the United Nations. He said that this air defense system will ensure 100% safety and security for Russian soldiers in Syria".
Russia decided to transfer the S-300 to Syria after the Il-20 was accidentally shot down by Syrian air defense, mistaken for an Israeli target.
