On the afternoon of September 23, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Can Ba Huyen - Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Thuong Xuan district (Thanh Hoa province), said that the Chu river water level is still high, causing many places in the district to be cut off and isolated. In particular, the Ma village community tourism site is still cut off due to the flooded suspension bridge - the only road to this village.
According to Mr. Huyen, this division caused the entire Ma village with 50 households/200 people to be isolated and divided.
"The entire Ma village has been isolated since 5 p.m. yesterday, September 22. Currently, the water level on the Chu River has stopped rising but is still high. All households in Ma village are safe, but still isolated," Mr. Huyen informed.
It is known that due to heavy rains in the upstream of Chu River in recent days, the water level of Cua Dat Lake has risen. To ensure the safety of the project, from 3:00 p.m. on September 22, the lake has discharged floodwaters.
With the large discharge of water from Cua Dat reservoir, the water level of Chu River rose very quickly during the night of September 22 and this morning (September 23). Many constructions, roads, bridges and culverts were eroded and damaged, thousands of households along Ma River and Chu River were affected by flooding.
According to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Thanh Hoa province, by early afternoon of September 23, the water level of the upstream Ma River had peaked and was slowly decreasing; the water level of the mid- and downstream Ma River and Len River was rising.
On the national highways entrusted to Thanh Hoa province for management, landslides occurred on the slopes, road surface sedimentation, and longitudinal ditches at 178 locations, with a total volume of 60,009m3. In addition to two flooded spots in Hoi Xuan town and Nam Tien commune, Quan Hoa district, there are currently 5 traffic jams due to landslides, making it difficult to get to the mountainous district of Muong Lat.
Thanh Hoa Department of Transport has arranged human resources and vehicles and 17 bulldozers and excavators on the route to handle landslides and road surface sedimentation. Muong Lat district has proactively mobilized human resources and vehicles to handle congestion points, soon opening the traffic route with Quan Hoa district.
