On November 19, Ukrainian officials said Russian drones attacked an apartment building in Kharkiv, the country's second largest city, causing a major fire and injuring at least five people. The attack took place after midnight, when drones took turns hitting the two central districts of Slobidskyi and Osnovyansky.
According to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, Russia used 11 drones in the airstrike and the total number of casualties was 7. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 22 residents were evacuated from part of the damaged building. He added that another drone fell near a medical facility, injuring a doctor and damaging a building and many cars parked nearby.
Kharkiv is located about 30km from the Russian border and has successfully resisted Russian attacks during the early stages of the conflict that broke out in February 2022. The city has so far been a frequent target of airstrikes.
Meanwhile, in Russia, civil aviation agency Rosaviatsiya said that the southern Krasnodar airport has suspended flights to ensure safety. Unofficial Telegram channels of Russia and Ukraine reported a series of explosions across the Krasnodar region, where the Ilsky refinery and the Novorossiisk oil port are located, but this information has not been verified independently.
