On the morning of November 19, the La Lay International Border Guard Station (Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard) said that as of 9:00 a.m. the same day, the forces were continuing to check the scene to search for the driver swept away by the flood while driving a tractor-trailer across the A Rong Tren spillway (La Lay commune). The search encountered many obstacles due to the strong flow of the stream.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 18, the search force discovered a pants, belt and key drifting to the bank of a stream in Ta Put commune, about 5 km from the accident site. Relatives confirmed that these were items of driver Nguyen Van Th. (born in 1977, residing in Ba Don ward, Quang Tri province).
Before the information appeared on social networks saying that the truck driver had been rescued, Mr. Le Quang Thach - Chairman of the People's Committee of La Lay commune affirmed that this was fabricated information. Forces are still urgently expanding the search area this morning.
From November 17 to now, hundreds of border guards, soldiers, police, militia, SOS forces and people of La Lay and Ta Put communes have been mobilized to search for the victims.
Previously, at around 12:00 on November 17, although the area was warned of dangerous deep flooding, driver Th. still drove a tractor-trailer with license plate 75H-00713 through the A Rong Tren overflow tunnel and was swept away by the flood. After the water receded, the vehicle was found about 50 m below the overflow, having fallen and been severely damaged.
