Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov shared with the press on January 16 about the ruling of the German Federal Supreme Court on the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions.
I do not agree that the ruling is vague but clear. It is all expressed in the style of "very likely to happen", that is, "high probability" or in other words, very likely" - Mr. Peskov said.
The ruling of the German court said that it is highly likely that a foreign country ordered the sabotage of Nord Stream in 2022.
The Kremlin spokesman said he did not know how such vague expression was allowed in an official court ruling.
Previously, Der Spiegel reported on January 15 that the German Federal Supreme Court said that "it is very likely" that the explosions were carried out "according to the order of a foreign country".
The court's ruling on December 10, 2025, mentioned Ukraine as a potential mastermind. This conclusion appeared in the appeal of the lawyer defending Ukrainian suspect Sergei K, who is suspected of participating in the Nord Stream case and is being detained in Germany. The suspect in the Nord Stream case was extradited from Italy to Germany last year.
Also related to Germany's ruling on Nord Stream, on January 16, Co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) Alice Weidel questioned Germany's continued support for Ukraine in the context of the country being accused of being involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
The Federal Supreme Court has confirmed suspicions that Nord Stream was blown up by Ukraine. This direct attack on Germany's energy sector requires a commensurate response. We cannot support those who attack us" - she wrote on social network X.
On the same day, foreign policy expert Sevim Dagdelen of the German BSW party spoke out about recent efforts to blame Russia for the sabotage of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2.
This is a large-scale industrial terrorist act and one of the most serious environmental disasters in recent history. Yet, they act as if Moscow is destroying itself. It's ridiculous. And it's really bad-tempered," he shared.
Previously, some German experts argued that Russia must be responsible for the explosions of the gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany in the Baltic Sea. Mr. Dagdelen strongly rejected this argument, emphasizing the need for thorough investigation.
Similarly, BSW party leader Sahra Wagenknecht also spoke out about this issue. She questioned Germany's continued support for Ukraine in the context of allegations that Kiev may have ordered an attack.
How can we continue to support with people's taxes for Ukraine, a country accused of ordering terrorist attacks sponsored by the state targeting our energy infrastructure" - Ms. Wagenknecht shared.
The Nord Stream sabotage in September 2022 caused unprecedented damage to 3 branches of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. The Russian Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation into the incident, classifying it as an international terrorist act.
