Russia talks about the $200 billion US aid to Ukraine

Amid controversy over Mr Trump's claim that the US had provided Ukraine with $200 billion in aid, Russia said the money had been embezzled.

RT reported that on February 3, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his associates of embezzling huge amounts of aid money, in the context that Mr. Zelensky said: "I don't know where that money went."

Mr Medvedev said that the money went to individuals, many state agencies or military contractors. This money was not used entirely for aid to Ukraine. He also affirmed that billions of dollars disappeared all over the world because they were embezzled in the form of cash and weapons.

Regarding who is responsible for the lost money, Mr. Medvedev said that the former US administration, under the leadership of Mr. Joe Biden, was involved in this incident.

Although Mr. Medvedev encouraged Mr. Elon Musk's efforts to investigate corruption in the US Agency for International Development USAID and aid to Ukraine, he still insisted that this would not lead anywhere.

Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has publicly criticized USAID's activities and has declared his desire to abolish the agency.

On February 2, Mr. Zelensky announced that Kiev had received just over $76 billion in military aid and other support, while the Joe Biden administration had approved $177 billion in military aid for Ukraine since 2022.

According to Germany's Kiel Institute, as of October 2024, Ukraine had received a total of $223 billion in financial and military aid, including $92 billion from the US and $131 billion from EU countries and the UK.

Meanwhile, in early January, President Donald Trump - who has always been dissatisfied with previous aid packages Washington sent to Kiev - asserted that the US had spent up to $200 billion on Ukraine but had not achieved any of its goals.
