Izvestia reported that on May 12, the Russian Defense Ministry said that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) control units of the Vostok soldiers carried out an airstrike on the village of Komar, south of Donetsk, after detecting Ukrainian soldiers trying to rotate troops in the area.
The airstrike, described by the Russian Defense Ministry as accurate, destroyed Ukrainian vehicles and disrupted logistical operations, including ammunition and supplies.
A few days earlier, a number of other Ukrainian armored vehicles were also destroyed by a Russian airstrike on the northern front line of Donetsk.
In this attack, Russian forces also directly participated in the fight, using many armed helicopters Mi-35M.
Notably, after completing the mission, the air team proactively avoided the missile by flying at very low altitudes and launching heat prey to distract the enemy's air defense system.
In a statement on May 12, the Russian Defense Ministry also highlighted some actions that are considered brave by soldiers in other war zone areas.
Sergeant Anatoly Svetlichny has been tasked with establishing a communication system for a Russian infantry unit. While the unit was on the move, they were heavily attacked by Ukrainian forces.
An explosive artillery shell damaged the communications station, and Svetlichny was injured by shrapnel. However, after providing first aid, he restored the communication station and ensured smooth information for the commander.
With Svetlichny's courage, the positions of the Ukrainian soldiers were reported in time, leading to an effective counter-fire. This helped repel the attack and create conditions for the Russian army to advance as planned.
The Russian Defense Ministry also honored Captain Alexei Chirkov, a combat nurse of the company. While the unit was attacked by Ukraine near the front line, Chirkov bravely rushed onto the front line to rescue an injured soldier.
Under the dense artillery lane, he quickly approached the injured, gave first aid on the spot, then pulled them out of the danger zone and organized an evacuation to the emergency room. Thanks to timely and decisive action, this soldier was saved.
