Russia claims to be leading the world in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) thanks to technological developments in the conflict with Ukraine.

On August 28 (local time), according to TASS news agency, Russian Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev declared that Russia is in the world's leading position in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) technology.

Speaking at the 3rd New Media Festival, Mr. Medvedev said that drones are being developed strongly around the world. However, according to him, Russia has now risen to a leading position in this field.

We are definitely in the lead," Medvedev said, while saying that Russia's progress is directly related to the strong developments taking place in the country in the context of the military conflict with Ukraine.

According to Mr. Medvedev, military conflict often promotes technological breakthroughs.

Mr. Medvedev affirmed that Russia will continue to develop this field and compete to maintain its leading position.

We will continue the work we are doing, because we have no other choice. And surely, we will continue to strive to maintain the leading position," he said.

Mr. Medvedev's statement was made in the context of drones playing an increasingly important role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Unmanned systems are used for many tasks, from reconnaissance, information gathering to attack.

Russia and Ukraine are both continuously developing and improving unmanned aerial vehicles to meet the requirements on the battlefield. This also promotes competition in unmanned technology between the two sides.
