The Russian Ministry of Defense said on August 18 that Russian forces had controlled 2 residential areas in Donetsk in the past 24 hours, within the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine.
According to the statement, units of the Southern Operations Group controlled the Orekhovatka residential area, while units of the Krasnopodolye Residential Control Center Operations Group, all belonging to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that Ukrainian forces lost about 1,445 troops in front lines in the past 24 hours.
Russia's Northern Combat Group announced that Ukraine suffered more than 200 troops and 4 armored fighting vehicles. The Western Group said it caused more than 220 troops to be damaged and destroyed 3 cannons, while the Southern Group claimed to have caused damage to about 260 troops and 9 armored fighting vehicles of Ukraine.
The Central Operations Group said that Ukraine suffered more than 355 troops and 2 armored fighting vehicles. The Eastern Group claimed to have caused more than 365 troops and 1 armored vehicle. Meanwhile, the Dnepr Group said that Ukraine suffered about 45 troops, along with 2 electronic warfare stations and 1 counter-attack radar.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in the area under the Southern Group's responsibility, in addition to the above-mentioned soldiers, Ukrainian forces also lost 9 armored fighting vehicles, including a British-made Spartan armored personnel carrier, a US M113, a HMMWV vehicle and 2 Canadian-made Senator vehicles. Russia also announced the destruction of 23 motorized vehicles and 4 field artillery pieces.
The Central Operations Group is said to have destroyed 8 more motorized vehicles, 2 cannons and a electronic warfare station. The Eastern Group announced the destruction of 10 motorized vehicles.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also said that the country's forces attacked logistics centers, fuel-energy facilities and transport infrastructure used by the Ukrainian army, along with UAV production and storage facilities and force gathering points at 148 locations.
On the evening of August 17 (Moscow time), Russian attack UAVs were believed to have hit fuel tanks for the Ukrainian army at the port of Odessa.
In 24 hours, Russia announced that air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 1,671 Ukrainian UAVs, 10 guided bombs and 2 HIMARS missiles. The Russian Aerospace Forces also announced that they shot down a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet.
