RT reported that on December 29 local time, a protest took place at Dam Square in Amsterdam to call on the Dutch government to conduct dialogue with Russia instead of continuing to provide military aid to Ukraine.
The protest was organized by several activist groups and the Dutch right-wing FvD party. Event organizers said the protest attracted at least 1,500 people.
Speaking at the event, FvD MP Gideon van Meijeren called for peace with Russia and accused Western countries of trying to start a war.
Mr. Meijeren asserted that Moscow's real goal is to protect national interests.
“Peace would be the best option for everyone,” Mr. Meijeren stressed.
The stage where MP Gideon van Meijeren spoke was decorated with a poster reading “Peace with Russia” and an illustration of a ribbon in the shape of the Dutch flag transformed into the Russian flag.
Also attending the event, a member of the Heart for Freedom activist group, Hugo Gitelink, said that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine risks becoming a third world war, and called for an urgent ceasefire and the lifting of economic and cultural sanctions.
The Netherlands has been one of the most active countries in supporting Ukraine, providing a wide range of sophisticated components, contributing financially to the purchase of Leopard tanks, and pledging to deliver US-made F-16 fighter jets. According to Dutch government estimates, Ukraine has received $3.15 billion in military aid in 2024 alone.
