The coronation ceremony of Emperor Naruhito, known as Sokui no Rei, is one of Japan's biggest events in 2019.
The ceremony will be attended by representatives from 194 countries, including many royal members of other countries such as: Prince of Wales Charles, King Felipe VI and Queen Letitia of Spain, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands...
Attending this event, guests will wait at the entrance to the inside of the Tokyo Imperial Palace Hall. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will wear royal coats to step up to the throne. The emperor will give an official speech announcing his successor.
After that, Prime Minister Abe Shinzo will represent the country to congratulate the new Emperor and guide the visitors to the ceremony to congratulate the new Japanese Emperor.
Previously, on May 1, Prince Naruhito was crowned after his father, Emperor Akihito, deposed. But during this Sokui no Rei ceremony, Emperor Naruhito officially announced his successor, opening a new dynasty for Japan called the Golden Eagle Order.
According to Kyodo, there are many rituals that need to be performed regarding the coronation of Emperor Naruhito. The first ceremony was Sokui go Choken no Gi - the first debut ceremony of the emperor after his successor - held last May. The second ceremony, Sokui no Rei, will take place at noon on October 22. And finally, Daijosai, the culmination ceremony of the coronation, is scheduled to take place in November. During this Daijosai ceremony, the emperor will visit temples across Japan.
