Armed police were present at the scene of the blast on Rue Lafayette - one of the busiest streets in central Paris, near the Le Peletier metro station. Witnessnesses said that at least 15 police officers equipped with guns were present at the scene.
After the incident, the streets were blocked. The metro station has also been closed for police to take "security measures".
