A spokesperson for the Japanese Ministry of National Defense said that they had received a report of an explosion at a Japanese Self-Defense Forces (SDF) facility inside Kadena Air Force Station in southern Japan.
Japanese media reported that four injuries were reported in the blast. The injured victims were not in danger of death.
NHK quoted unnamed sources from Japan's Ministry of Defense as saying that the explosion occurred at a temporary storage facility for unexploded bombs. Authorities are trying to determine the situation.
"We heard an explosion at the SDF facility and also heard injuries, but we have no further details," said Yuta Matsuda, a local official in Yomitan village in Okinawa.
