Scientists Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar Yaghi have won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for developing the metal framework - organic", the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said.
"metal - organic frames have great potential, opening up unprecedented opportunities to create materials designed with customization for new purposes," said Mr. Heiner Linke, Chairman of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry.
Scientist Susumu Kitagawa, born in 2015, is a professor at Kyoto University, Japan; scientist Richard Robson, born in 1937 in the UK, is currently a professor at Melbourne University, Australia; scientist Omar M. Yaghi, born in 1965 in Amman, Jordan, is currently a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, USA.
The winners will share 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.2 million), along with the reputation of winning the world's most prestigious scientific award.
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is the third in this year's series of awards, following tradition, after previously announced awards in medicine and biochemistry.
