Russian President Vladimir Putin recently affirmed Russia's solid position in the global arms market. Speaking at a meeting on technical and military cooperation, Mr. Putin said that this achievement reflects the quality of Russian-made weapons, RT reported.
The Russian president said the international order list for Russian military products is currently worth tens of billions of USD. He called for further increases in export volumes and expanding service offerings to strengthen Russia's position in the context of increasingly fierce global competition.
According to Mr. Putin, in addition to providing weapons and equipment, Russia needs to promote technological cooperation, develop advanced weapons models with foreign partners, support the repair, modernization of weapons, provide replacement parts and train foreign experts. These services will help Russia increase competitiveness and retain long-term customers.
In November 2024, General Director of state arms export agency Rosoboronexport, Mr. Aleksandr Mikheev, shared with Vedomosti that the value of the export order portfolio remained at a record of 55 billion USD in 2024. Mr. Mikheev added that the agency has signed contracts to supply more than 30 types of modern weapons and military equipment to international customers.
Also in 2024, Mr. Sergey Chemezov - head of state defense corporation Rostec - announced that Rosoboronexport has signed more than 20 contracts worth about 7 billion USD since the beginning of the year.
According to data from the World arms Trade Center (CAWAT), Russia ranked second globally in arms exports in 2024, accounting for 12.32% of the international market share. Topping the US with 37.92%, followed by France (6. 90%), South Korea and Italy (5.10,0% each).
President Putin said that these figures are a testament to Russia's leading position in the field of defense exports, and affirmed its commitment to continue developing the defense industry to maintain and expand its influence in the global market.
