The Russian Defense Ministry said the country's air defense forces shot down a total of 104 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Russian airspace overnight, according to a notice issued on the morning of May 24, RT reported.
The most severely affected area is Belgorod province, where 74 UAVs were shot down. 24 other UAVs were stopped in the Bryansk region. Other regions such as Kursk, Lipetsk, voronezh and Tula also recorded UAV interceptions.
However, there have been no reports of UAVs entering the Moscow capital - which was previously the main target of Kiev's UAV attacks.
The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that Ukraine has significantly increased the intensity of UAV attacks this week. From May 20 to May 22, 776 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down in Russian airspace.
Previously, on May 22, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Ukrainian UAV attacks had killed 1 person and injured 20 others, including 4 children. The ministry condemned the strikes as terrorist acts aimed at civilians and accused Kiev of deliberately sabotage direct talks between Russia and Ukraine mediated by the Trump administration.
Russia has vowed to respond to these attacks, but stressed that unlike Ukraine, Russia's targets will be "restricted to military facilities and defense industry plants".
