In a video address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos 55 in Switzerland, President Donald Trump said he would ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower global oil prices.
"If oil prices go down, the Russia-Ukraine conflict will end immediately. Right now, prices are high enough for the conflict to continue," said Donald Trump.
RT reported that the US President also said that he "really wants to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin soon and end the war."
Mr. Trump repeatedly declared during his election campaign that he would end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours if he returned to the White House.
However, since returning to power, he has only issued an ultimatum to Russia on January 22, urging Moscow to end the conflict and reach a “deal” with Kiev or face new sanctions and high import tariffs.
Mr. Trump also confirmed media reports that Saudi Arabia would invest “at least $600 billion in the United States.” The US president also said he would ask the Saudi Crown Prince, “a wonderful man,” to round up the amount to about $1 trillion.
"I think they will do that because we have been so good to them," the US leader declared.
Last November, the Financial Times reported that Mr Trump pledged to lift restrictions on US energy producers, aiming to lower prices and boost domestic production.
Mr Trump campaigned on the slogan “Drill for oil, drill for oil, drill for oil” and has previously claimed that the US has “more liquid gold than any country in the world, more than Saudi Arabia”.
