If confirmed, this would be Mr. Vought’s second time in the role, according to two sources familiar with the matter who spoke to CBS News. Mr. Vought served as head of the Office of Management and Budget during Mr. Trump’s first term.
During Mr. Trump’s first administration, Mr. Vought was deputy director and then acting director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Previously, Mr. Vought was vice president of Heritage Action for America, an organization that leads grassroots efforts to implement conservative policies across the United States.
Mr. Vought also wrote a chapter in the Project 2025 blueprint, in the chapter that refers to the “Executive Office of the President.”
Project 2025 is a roughly 900-page document produced by the Washington-based Heritage Foundation think tank, with the participation of dozens of other conservative organizations, that is seen as shaping the direction of the Republican Party if it regains the White House.
The Office of Management and Budget is responsible for developing the president's proposed budget and is responsible for implementing the president's agenda throughout the federal government.
Mr. Trump continues to announce new personnel nominations almost daily. The president-elect is expected to announce all of his second-term Cabinet-level personnel before Thanksgiving.
