In his speech at the US House of Representatives on the evening of March 4 (morning of March 5, Vietnam time), President Donald Trump spent time talking about the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He said he had received an important letter from President Zelensky.
"The letter reads: Ukraine is ready to sit at the negotiating table as soon as possible to move closer to long-term peace. No one wants more peace than Ukrainians," President Trump said.
President Zelensky wrote in the letter: "My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Donald Trump to achieve sustainable peace. We truly appreciate what the United States has done to help Ukraine maintain sovereignty and independence. Regarding the mineral and security agreement, Ukraine is ready to sign at any time that is convenient for him."
President Trump said: "I really appreciate his sending this letter. I just received it not long ago. At the same time, we have had serious discussions with Russia and received strong signals that they are also ready for peace. It's great, right?"
Also in his speech to the National Assembly, Mr. Trump emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin felt encouraged to send troops to Ukraine because of the way the Biden administration handled the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
Mr Trump criticized Mr. Biden's chaotic withdrawal in August 2021, when the Afghanistan government collapsed and the Taliban returned to power. He recalled the bombing at the Abbey gate of Khan International Airport that killed 13 US soldiers.
The US president said he was working "artlessly" to end the "b harsh" conflict in Ukraine.
"Millions of Ukrainians and Russia have been killed or seriously injured in this terrible and brutal conflict, which has not yet ended. The US has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine's defense, but there are no guarantees of security," Trump said.
President Trump also said the US will "has Greenland - one way or another," and sent a message to the people of Greenland: "We fully support your right to self-determination. If you choose, we welcome you to join the US. We will protect you. We will make you rich and together take Greenland to a height you have never thought of before," Trump said.
The White House boss said that the US has begun to "re conquer" the Panama Canal after promising in the election campaign to bring the canal back under Washington's control.
On the morning of March 4, BlackRock Group, a giant US asset management company, announced its agreement to buy two ports at both ends of the Panama Canal from a company based in Hong Kong (China).
