The US completely controls the Strait of Hormuz and is ready to launch an attack on Iran if it seeks to change the status quo in any form, US President Donald Trump declared when answering questions from reporters at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington on August 11 (US time), TASS reported.
We have full control of the Strait of Hormuz at this time. And at some point, maybe they (Iran) will do something, and then they will be defeated," Trump said.
The head of the White House emphasized that this strategic shipping line is under complete US control - a way of expressing that Washington considers freedom of navigation through Hormuz as a red line in the entire confrontation with Tehran.
Earlier, on August 2, Mr. Trump said he had agreed to cancel a planned major offensive against Iran to move towards an agreement with Tehran. According to the US President, Iran and Middle Eastern countries have asked Washington to exercise restraint and not launch an attack, after the parties reached a consensus on the main features of a future agreement.
On August 6, Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya television channel quoted a senior source as saying that the mediated consultations between Washington and Tehran have entered the final stage.
